1986 Hyundai Pony GL 1.6L
It's Pony time! We've been eagerly waiting to film this car for a number of reasons. It's time for TestDrive to get back into the classic car reviews! Over a year ago when we built our new website at www.perpetualradio.ca we wanted to explain the type of classic cars we were looking for, from the fully loaded BMW 7 Series all the way down to the Hyundai Pony, so luck would have it that we'd find one to film. The 1986 Hyundai Pony was the third year of production for the second generation Pony, ending for the 87 model year. Over 25,000 were sold in Canada in the first year, making it's near $5,000 MSRP one of the most affordable new cars money could buy. Our test model cost closer to the $6,000 mark, with the fully loaded GLS models nearing $9,000 with all the options. This Pony also came with the slightly more powerful Mitsubishi 4G32 inline 4 engine producing an earth-shattering 74 horsepower and 88 lb-ft of torque. We're glad this car received the larger engine upgrade, as you'll see during our road test.
